This natural quartz specimen has the appearance of several plate-like sections joined together, creating a layered, architectural form. A pale line can be seen near the center—the characteristic thread-like structure that gives Faden Quartz its name.
“Faden” is the German word for thread. The internal line forms through repeated fracture opening and quartz regrowth, preserving part of the crystal’s formation history within the material itself.
Joun considers this one of his favorite forms of quartz and is particularly drawn to its stylish, naturally composed appearance. It can be enjoyed as a small work of natural art in many parts of a room.
Directional or transmitted light may make the central structure easier to observe. As quartz can chip along projecting edges, handle the specimen carefully and place it on a stable display surface.
