This hand-polished ussingite has a very pale wisteria tone, shifting softly between white, grey, and lilac. Fine mottling spreads through its semi-translucent interior, giving it the appearance of ice touched with faint violet.
Its gently rounded, almost rectangular form has a smooth surface and curved edges that catch stronger reflections. Soft light from the side reveals the contrast between the polished sheen and the cloudy variations within.
Ussingite is a sodium aluminium silicate named after Danish geologist Niels Viggo Ussing. This specimen is from the Shkatulka pegmatite at Alluaiv Mountain in the Lovozero Massif, Russia. Joun acquired it while also sourcing natrolite, selecting it for its unusual, restrained coloration.
A considered choice for those drawn to less familiar mineral species and subtle color. Handle gently and display away from direct sunlight.
