This polished ametrine retains an irregular, rough-like form, with hollows along the outline and a projecting lower section. Its deep purple body recalls a fragment of thick colored glass, while pale yellow-brown areas appear near the upper edge and lower left.
The quartz is translucent, with shifts between lighter and darker purple. Strong reflections follow the uneven surface, and a small rainbow-colored flash can be seen near the lower-left area when the lighting angle changes.
Ametrine is distinguished by purple and yellow-orange color zones produced by different oxidation states of trace iron within quartz. This specimen is attributed to the Anahi Mine in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Joun recommends viewing it with a soft light placed behind the specimen. Backlighting brings the color distribution into clearer view, while closer directional light reveals the polished relief and subtle internal flash. Avoid direct sunlight.
