This compact pendant holds a polished, elongated oval of sugilite silica, set in sterling silver. Quartz mingles with the sugilite in irregular passages of pale and deeper purple, like violet pigment gently mottled across the stone.
The darker purple gathers more strongly toward the lower portion, while the domed, glossy surface catches light in a narrow reflection. For Joun, the beauty of this piece lies in the delicate way its colors blend rather than forming hard boundaries.
The material is attributed to the Northern Cape of South Africa. View it under soft light and tilt it away from direct reflections to better appreciate the subtle transitions between each shade of purple.
