This unpolished window quartz is almost colorless, with only a very pale yellow cast. Its elongated crystal outline narrows toward both ends, while overlapping diagonal faces give the form a quiet geometric rhythm.
Inside, irregular fine lines scatter the light into shifting reflections. These can appear whitish in photographs, but Joun notes that the specimen has a more complex transparency in person, with a delicate sparkle that emerges as the viewing angle changes.
The broad crystal faces reflect light strongly, revealing parallel surface striations. View it under soft directional light to move between the face reflections and internal detail, or place a gentle light behind it to observe the layered lines within the clearer areas.
Quartz is composed of silica, or silicon dioxide. This natural crystal comes from Paredon in Ramos Arizpe Municipality, Coahuila, Mexico, and retains its unpolished surface.
For care, avoid allowing water to settle in its fine openings.
