Veracruz Amethyst Crystal in Pale Violet
Veracruz Amethyst Crystal in Pale Violet

Pale violet deepens gently toward the tip of this slender, prismatic amethyst crystal, while the base remains lighter. Several faces taper toward the tip, and small crystals attach near the base. Its transparency suggests a column of ice with a trace of violet held within.
Bright reflections cross the crystal faces, while fine internal lines reward closer viewing. Joun particularly appreciates the delicate purple and clarity of this piece, and considers it well suited to a desk display.
This specimen comes from Piedra Parada, Tatatila Municipality, Veracruz, Mexico. Amethyst is the violet-to-purple variety of quartz; here, the subtle difference between tip and base gives the color its character.
Soft side lighting brings out the elongated outline and reflections. Gentle light from behind offers another way to compare the color at either end. Keep it away from prolonged strong direct sunlight and heat, and protect the crystal tips from knocks.
